When I started “weight training”, I was a skinny 17-year-old kid growing up in my native Nigeria.
I’ve put weight training in quotes because all we had back then was not your conventional iron and steel dumbbells and barbells. Instead, we used makeshift, unbalanced concrete blocks made of cement and recycled buckets.
I was fortunate and blessed to have an uncle by my side who got me up every morning for cardio sessions that often involved running up a nearby hill at 5AM!
Fast forward to 2006 when I moved to London and was going through a season of depression after a messy breakup, I decided to join a local gym.
I immediately made friends with a kindred spirit – a guy named Eric – who was going through a divorce. Eric was instrumental in sharing with me the cathartic benefits of fitness training.
Both men are immortal to me and are unique in how they set no roof or limit to what they sort to accomplish. As their loyal and avid student, I also don’t see an end goal to the fitness journey. It’s a mantra I tell all my clients.
I just want to get the most out of the opportunity I’ve been given. To become the best version of myself. Also, I simply want to maximise my potential as an athlete.
